Judy and I are down<br \/>\nat the Surfing Albatross and the usually quiet cafe is packed. All the people<br \/>\nwho would normally be in the courtyard are inside and some extra people have<br \/>\ncome in because there&#8217;s nothing else to do. Everyone&#8217;s go wet hair and several<br \/>\npeople have beach towels wrapped around themselves. Quite a few people have<br \/>\nwaterproof jackets on. And the surest sign that it&#8217;s cold and wet is the number<br \/>\nof toddlers in pushers. It&#8217;s an amazing contrast to yesterday which was itself<br \/>\nan amazing day. <\/p>\n<p>We had a mild day but all around us the state was sweltering. In Melbourne<br \/>\n(North East of here) it reached a New Year&#8217;s Eve record of 42, 46 in Horsham<br \/>\nto our West and 41 in Ballarat to our North West. At 10:30 the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\">Bureau<\/a> issued<br \/>\nan ammended predicted maximum of 32 because the wind had turned to the south<br \/>\nbut, after a brief pause, the mercury continued to climb until the maxium<br \/>\nwas reached at 5pm<\/p>\n<p>After the change last night in Melbourne it dropped to 25.
