See Your School Through Fresh Eyes
You, as principal, carry the responsibility for shaping culture, yet you rarely get to hear how it is lived by staff across the school. Here is a program that offers you an honest, narrative-based portrait of your school’s culture—one that goes beyond data points and surveys to capture the voices, experiences, and patterns that define daily life.
A mirror held up to the school’s daily life—drawn from the voices of staff—so you can see the culture as it is experienced, not just as it is reported.
Process
1. Scoping Conversation
- Meet with the principal or leadership group to clarify focus areas (e.g. collaboration, staff wellbeing, student engagement).
- Agree on interview sample (range of roles, year levels, experience).
2. Staff Conversations
- Conduct 8–12 confidential, one-on-one interviews with teachers, support staff, and leaders.
- Questions invite stories and experiences, not just opinions.
3. Narrative Portrait
- Themes, stories, and insights are woven into a descriptive “culture narrative.”
- The narrative highlights strengths, tensions, and unspoken norms shaping the school.
4. Leadership Debrief
- Facilitate a reflective session with the principal (and leadership team if desired).
- Explore what the narrative reveals, and identify leverage points for strengthening culture.
Outcomes
- A clearer understanding of the school’s cultural landscape, as experienced by staff.
- Identification of both strengths to build on and challenges to address.
- A safe channel for staff voice without blame or judgement.
- A practical springboard for leadership reflection and action planning
Deliverables
- Written Culture Narrative (5–7 pages) capturing key themes, patterns, and illustrative quotes.
- Leadership Reflection Session (90 minutes) to explore insights and next steps.
